Course
content
Internally
the course forms part of a MEng/MSc module in structural
fire engineering. For external delegates it is possible
to attend for any combination of the four days, with
the fees being pro rata. Powerpoint handouts will
be provided in hard copy and CD formats, together
with some additonal background materials and spreadsheets.

testing, prescriptive fire protection
- BS 5950 Part 8 simple
design for steel members

Day 2
- Eurocode 3 Part 1-2
fire design for steel members
- Eurocode 4 simple
design for composite structures
- The Cardington full-scale
fire tests & whole structure behaviour
- Post-Cardington design
guidance and performance-based design
- Alternative routes
to fire resistance

- Advanced calculation
approaches
- Portal frames in
boundary conditions
- Integrated fire engineering
design (Florian Block, Buro Happold Ltd)
- Case studies (from):

4
- Hands-on example:
practice using simple Eurocode design of structural
elements using Excel spreadsheets.

Who should attend?
The course will be of
use to structural engineers, building control authorities
and others involved in ensuring fire resistance of buildings,
who wish to understand the background and principles
of structural fire engineering, particularly in the
context of the considerable advances in the state of
the art which have taken place over the past two decades.
